Their first meeting as adults—Daniel, the successful contractor and family man, and Johnny, the working-class mechanic haunted by a lost tournament—was electric with old resentment. The reopening of Cobra Kai in the Valley reignited a rivalry that had been smoldering since the All Valley Karate Tournament, and the two men spent the early seasons circling each other like cornered dogs, each convinced the other was the greater threat to their students.

The turning point came not in a dojo but in the trenches: when Kreese and Terry Silver moved to consolidate power and turn the next generation into weapons, Daniel and Johnny realized that their separate dojos, however philosophically opposed, were too small to stand alone. The Alliance was less a formal merger than a mutual recognition—'I will protect your students if you protect mine'—that grew into genuine trust. They sparred, argued, bled, and ultimately fought side by side against opponents who had no such scruples about who got hurt.

In later seasons, the Alliance must also contend with internal fractures—Robby's loyalty tested, Miguel's ambition, the pull of old grudges. The partnership with Chozen and the Miyagi legacy provides a stabilizing anchor.

Evolution: Season 1 pits the two men against each other. By Season 2 the truce solidifies. Seasons 3–5 see the Alliance face escalating external threats (Kreese, Silver, and the broader tournament circuit) while their internal dynamic matures from wary allies to something closer to brothers. The dojos remain separate in name and method, but in practice they operate as one front.
